SIP endpoint registration
If the SIP endpoints in your organization are not already registered to an existing SIP call control platform, we recommend that you register them to the Pexip Service as a best practice. This approach provides several key benefits for both participants and administrators.
Benefits of provisioning and registration
Participants using SIP endpoints that are registered to the Pexip Service can join Pexip meetings, use Pexip's interop services to join Microsoft Teams and Google Meet meetings, and make direct calls to other registered endpoints and personal users within the same company, with high-quality video.
This offers a simplified user and administrative experience by offering consistent and straightforward connectivity, which is critical when providing a real-time application.
Technical benefits of provisioning and registration include:
- SIP devices receive endpoint provisioning, pointing the system to the closest Pexip Point of Presence (PoP) to register and send traffic.
- Fault tolerance ensures that the SIP devices can be moved to an alternative PoP if the primary one becomes unavailable.
- Provisioning guarantees that devices automatically receive the necessary configuration to work with the Pexip Service, ensuring configuration consistency across all provisioned endpoints.
- Registration provides full flexibility in controlling multiscreen functionality, independent of the endpoint vendor, model, or firmware version.
- Centralized and customizable phonebook provided by the Pexip Service.
- Lobby bypass for Microsoft Teams and Google Meet gateway calls allows endpoints registered to the Pexip Service to join these meetings without requiring manual admission from a meeting host. For more information, see Trusted devices for lobby bypass (Teams) and Trusted devices for direct entry to the meeting (Google Meet).
- Firewall traversal enables registered SIP endpoints located behind a NAT / firewall to connect to external SIP and H323 platforms along with Microsoft Teams and Google Meet meetings.
- Ability to monitor status of devices in Pexip Control Center and receive notifications each time an endpoint goes offline or comes back online.
Registering and provisioning SIP endpoints
To register your device you need an endpoint subscription (which requires a license), then you need to activate your device for use with the Pexip Service (sometimes referred to as provisioning). The Pexip Service supports activation with a wide range of endpoint manufacturers such as Avaya, Cisco, Poly and Yealink — for a full list of models see Videoconferencing units compatible with Pexip subscriptions.
If you already have an endpoint subscription, see Activating your VTC system for help on how to get set up. If you'd like to get an endpoint subscription please contact your Pexip authorized support representative for help.
